An Open Letter To My Family

Dear Loved One:

I am giving you this letter because I want you to know the covenant God has called me to concerning you.  While this calling is surely not new, my awareness of it is.  And while my awareness may be new, it is not temporary or passing, but is permanent and eternal.  As you read this covenant, please understand that I realize I will probably falter at some many points in my quest, but I will not quit this committment.  Instead, I will consider this covenant every day for the rest of my life.  I just wanted you to know.

My Covenant with God Concerning You

I.   I will strive to remember and understand that God has joined us for His purpose and glory, and He has called me to love you unconditionally.

II.   I will pray for you and seek God's face on your behalf.

III.   I will strive to honor and respect you. I will look for the best in you and endeavor to encourage you in the path God leads you.

IV.   In your absence, unless I am convinced it is necessary, all my words and comments concerning you will be favorable and kind.

V.   In your presence, unless I am convinced it is necessary, all my words and comments concerning you will be kind and honest.

VI.   I will celebrate your success as if it is my own. I will encourage you when you fail, as if your failures are my own.

VII.   You can always know that I recognize and appreciate the special and sacred relationship God has called me to have with you, and that I am watching out for your best interests.

With God's Help,
